JH and I just watched the two latest Torchwood episodes and I have some thoughts.
At first I really disliked Owen being dead, but as the episodes progressed it's grown on me. It gives him space to grow in unexpected directions (and geez, I'm making him sound like a tomato vine) and it also gives the Tosh/Owen relationship room as well. Had he not died and they'd gone on the date, chances are the relationship would have crash and burned rather quickly - as much as I might have wished it otherwise. With Owen as dead man walking, they can't have the sex or much of anything physical which, I think, gives them space to become more comfortable with one another.
What happened to snarky Jack? I've always loved his one-liners and come-ons and he's really been missing it for most of the season. I get the he's maybe a darker Jack than we saw on DW, but he's still supposed to be charming and fun - at least some of the time. Mostly he's been a dead weight.
In the same vein, what happened to snarky Ianto? The first few episodes were win for some of his one-liners, but as of late he's been sadly short of both lines and humor.
Both JH and I agreed that the wedding episode wasn't too awful, especially when ignoring the obligatory Jack/Gwen wangst. The one after that, however, with the circus peoples was just bad. It was boring and confusing. Trapping them on film simply by filming them? Why? How? What? Did I miss something important or did that just make no sense whatsoever? And I don't understand why they wanted people's last breaths. Was that ever explained? And why was the pearl lady so obsessed with water? The more I think about it the angrier I get so I'm stopping now. I'll only add that I hated that episode with fierce passion.
On another note, I'm watching old The Closer episodes and can I say how excited I am for a new season? I really love this show.
