Mardi Gras definitely lives up to its hype. Although it helps that BH's friends are awesome and that Tulane in general is a pretty good party - not to mention all the good times the kids at ΚΣ have.

I don't understand the obsession people have with beads. Yesterday at Thoth there were two old ladies outside our tent who had three massive bags filled with 'em and would do anything to get more. The only thing I really want is a coconut at Zulu on Tuesday.

I'm planning on taking it slow today because I really want to do the whole tequila sunrise thing at Zulu tomorrow and I know that if I start drinking before about nine or ten this evening I'll never make it.

Mardi Gras!

The summary (copied below) and publish date (April 28, 2009) for the next book in Laurie R. King's Mary Russell series has been released. My excitement cannot be contained. I feel like I've been waiting for this book forever.
In a case that will push their relationship to the breaking point, Mary Russell must help reverse the greatest failure of her legendary husband’s storied past—a painful and personal defeat that still has the power to sting…this time fatally.

For Mary Russell and her husband, Sherlock Holmes, returning to the Sussex coast after seven months abroad was especially sweet. There was even a mystery to solve—the unexplained disappearance of an entire colony of bees from one of Holmes’s beloved hives.

But the anticipated sweetness of their homecoming is quickly tempered by a galling memory from her husband’s past. Mary had met Damian Adler only once before, when the promising surrealist painter had been charged with—and exonerated from—murder. Now the talented and troubled young man was enlisting their help again, this time in a desperate search for his missing wife and child.

When it comes to communal behavior, Russell has often observed that there are many kinds of madness. And before this case yields its shattering solution, she’ll come into dangerous contact with a fair number of them. From suicides at Stonehenge to a bizarre religious cult, from the demimonde of the Café Royal at the heart of Bohemian London to the dark secrets of a young woman’s past on the streets of Shanghai, Russell will find herself on the trail of a killer more dangerous than any she’s ever faced—a killer Sherlock Holmes himself may be protecting for reasons near and dear to his heart.

Tonight's Office was hilarious. Quite possibly the best ever. The first ten minutes were constant hilarity and the rest of the episode had some killer lines. I've watched it twice, and am DLing it for some more enjoyment.

What's up with Chuck being in 3D tomorrow? Do people have 3D glasses just sitting around their house? Also, new HIMYM! YAYS!

Today I had waffles for breakfast. I adore waffles. I think I may have to make Sundays 'waffle day'.

Does anyone else remember the Commander Keen game series from back in the early 90's? My siblings and I used to play Keen 4 for hours on our old computer and thought the joystick that our father bought for us was the coolest toy ever.

Needless to say, I was unbelievably psyched when I found a free copy of the entire series online today. I spent a happy hour marveling at just how bad the graphics were, and how awesome the deadly-goo-farting slugs are before giving up, because playing Keen without the joystick is just no fun at all. So tomorrow I'm off to search around for some cheap joysticks because oh my god, KEEN!

And because I'm a huge dork, I did a youtube search and watched far too many videos that made me grin with glee.

1UP!
Super Mario for the Super Nintendo is the greatest game ever made. Of course, I can't play any games on consoles after the Super Nintendo because the 3D graphics make me nauseous, but that's irrelevant. Super Mario Bros = Greatest Game Ever.

In other console news, the boys have two old Xboxes that were just sitting in the family room, so I spent the weekend softmoding one (my first softmod!) and installing XMBC. There are some horrible wires running from the kitchen (the nearest phone jack) and the family room, but the convenience of being able to listen to/watch all the media on my various computers on the family room TV is so worth it.

The entire time I was doing it I listened to Girl Talk's "Feed the Animals" album on repeat. So, so good.

I'm about to rewatch Tin Man because it's been a year since the miniseries aired and I recall particularly enjoying it. Plus, Zooey, on whom I have a wee bitty crush.

Oh! Plus, I gave Mrs. DeW copies of BSG and got her and Mr. DeW entirely hooked. Mother thinks I'm little better than a crack dealer, but I think it's not bad for a weekend's work.

I spent the last few days main-lining Reaper. It's awesomesauce. Pure, unatulterated sauce.

Also, Scrubs is back. Yay! I love me my JD and Turk. And Cox. And Kelso and Dr. Jan Itor. And everyone else, too.

Kyle XY's back, too. I just want Jessie to have one normal person in her life who'll put her first. I mean, really, is that too much to ask? Also, Amanda still = boring. Josh/Andy = too adorable for words. And Lori/Declan = ♥ 4EVER.

Re: last night's NCIS. Poor Ducky. But I spent the entire episode distracted by the lack of Abby. My crush grows weekly.

Am currently reading Susan Cooper's 'The Dark is Rising' series. It's strange, both slow and fast paced and I'm always surprised to find myself at the end of the book. I plan to start Greenwitch tonight.

AHHHHH! HOW IS IT ALREADY CHRISTMAS? 4SRSLY, YO. HOW?

I've got two presents, still need three and have absolutely no ideas. And tonight, instead of trawling the internets for some ideas, I'll be sitting back and watching the copy of the first season of Murphy Brown that I just sniped from the library. Yes, Murphy Brown. I love it, what?

Candice Bergen is love, people.

30 Rock is awesomesauce.

My love for Jack's mother cannot be properly expressed with words. There's flailing and squeeing and some jumping to and fro with a manic grin. Colleen is my favorite 30 Rock character by a landslide, mudslide and avalanche all rolled up into one messy natural disaster. And I have no idea where that metaphor went, but I don't think it was quite where I wanted it to go.

At any rate, Colleen=Love. And it's the good love, too. Not the creepy Edward/Bella love.

Watching the new NCIS episode (oh Abby, I love you like cheese) while drunk and with JH's friend's copy of Twilight on my lap. Despite working today, I do so love my life right now. Plus, all the kids are home. YAY!

ETA: Gibbs is COLD. And badass. And Lee! Oh, Lee. I would have liked some Palmer this episode, but all in all, not so bad. Especially considering the sad lack of Abby and Ducky.

ETA2: My love of House knows no bounds. The man, I mean. The show's fine, kinda awesome, even, but the man himself is no-holds-barred whoo. No really.

Ok, so not really madness, but I've been listening to the same few songs on repeat for like two weeks now (obsessive, moi? Noooo.) and thought I'd post a few. If only so that when I look back on this in a year or two I can say 3OH!3? What the hell was I thinking?! And giggle a little at my foolishness.

In no particular order:

Don't Trust Me by 3OH!3
In the Morning by Junior Boys
Take It or Leave It by VHS or Beta
Kids by MGMT
Id Engager by Of Montreal

So I've spent the week working which wouldn't be so bad, except that they have me in the children's section which is full of screaming kids, frazzled parents and various objects on the floor like used baby spoons and pizza crusts. Not to mention that the overfull racks of Disney clothes really freak me out. There's mostly High School Musical stuff, but a good bit of Hannah Montana and Jonas Brothers as well. Including bras and underwear. It's the bras that really freak me out. There's no way I'd ever buy a bra with the faces of three tween boys on it, no matter what age I am.

In other news, I bought all my roller derby equipment this weekend, which was awesome even though I might have to call into work twice because they've scheduled me on two days that I absolutely have to go to practice.

Also, I'm obsessed with this game: Robokill. Don't ask me why - it's not even particularly challenging. I just can't stop playing.

I miss BSG. Namely Roslin. She's so pretty. I crush like whoa.

BOO.

I suppose I'll still watch Grey's, if only because my Christina love hasn't abated, but I'll save it for the weekend or something because I certainly won't be watching the Mer/Der or anything involving Izzy. And now I get to watch 30 Rock live instead. Oh Tina Fey, you'll never let me down.

Boo ABC. Just, boo.

So I'm still plowing through NCIS. Season three's taken a bit longer than the last two - mostly because I really really can't stand the director. At first I thought it was because every time she came on the screen there was a little flashback of her and Gibbs' torrid history, but I just finished watching "Jeopardy" (3x22) and have realized that I really just don't like her as a character and the woman as an actress. Her voice is this awful almost monotone and her expression never changes. Madame Director gets a very large boo. And two thumbs down for good measure.

I spent the time Madame Director's on screen revamping my desktop. I've started using Rocketdock which is awesome and has completely removed the need for icons on my desktop. I still haven't settled on a desktop theme yet, but have been having great fun testing them. If I get motivated anytime soon, I hope to try my hand at making one.

Oooh, plus, I sniped about a million icons from Icon Factory and have taken great delight in using all the incredibly geeky sci-fi ones.

I heart geekery.

NCIS = AWESOME!

And now I'm on the search for icons because Gibbs! Tony! Duckie! Abby! And even Kate! I'm nearing the end of the second season and I'm not looking forward to it because I'm surprisingly fond of Kate.

In other happy news, JH is down in NOLA with BH and just drunk dialed me full of giggles. Drunk JH is funny.

It's Colombia, not Columbia. Morons.

I really need to stop watching Chuck. Every week it gets that much more awful. It's like a 20 car pile-up - you just can't look away from the horror.

Uhm, ok, so I'm rewatching (re-watching?) the second season of Kyle XY because I love Josh and Andy so extremely much and I'm on episode 2x11 (Hands on a Hybrid) and I'd forgotten how much I love my little duo. If Andy dies I will scream. And then stop watching. (No I won't, but it'll be a close call.)

Also I am drunk. And the dog smells like skunk. Am sad and drunk. And the cat is needy. I think we have the neediest cat in existence.

And you would not believe how many typos I've already corrected. Thank God for Firefox's spell check.
